About Bill

William BuchananWilliam L. (Bill) Buchanan was born in Quantico, Virginia in 1942. Upon graduation from Oregon State University in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and a science/tech minor, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. His service included tours of duty as platoon commander of an anti-armor (Ontos) platoon and a rifle (infantry) platoon with 2nd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment and later as Executive Officer of G Company in the Republic of Vietnam (1966 and 1967). He served as Assistant Operations Officer with 1st Battalion. 28th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton, California until his separation from the Marine Corps in January 1968.

From 1969 until 1996, he served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Chicago, Illinois as well as Monterey and San Francisco, California. His career included assignments in general criminal matters, foreign (Near East/North Africa) counter-terrorism and foreign (Soviet) counter intelligence, as well as white-collar crime investigations, and the Unabom (Ted Kaczynski) case.

Since founding Lodestar Judgment Recovery, he has assisted in the enforcement of a wide variety of judgments, some rendered in Superior Court, and some rendered in Small Claims Court. His background in law enforcement has made him aware of a wide spectrum of resources suitable for resolving civil money judgments.

In what spare time remains, Bill pursues his interests in mountain biking, photography, backcountry skiing, ocean kayaking, bird hunting, writing, and organic gardening. He lives in Mill Valley with Claire, his wife of 44 years, and his bird dogs Joey and Brady O’Brady.
